Online:Alchemy
Alchemy is a profession in Elder Scrolls Online. You can use it to create many types of potions. You must be at an alchemist's lab in order to create any items. In general, potions provide you with a quick boost to health, stamina, magicka, as well as other beneficial effects.
Alchemy works similarly to Skyrim, in that you do not need to find alchemy recipes before attempting to make potions. You are also able to eat potion ingredients to discover their effects. At level 1, you discover only the first effect.
Making potions has been refined since Skyrim, and now you require two reagents plus a solvent. Using a more powerful solvent boosts the power of your potion.
Alchemist Dialogue
You can learn about this profession by speaking with some of the alchemists, "How does alchemy work exactly?" They reply, "Alchemy is the art of creating potions. We scour the fields and caves of Tamriel in search of reagents like mushrooms, flowers, and the like. Mixing these ingredients with a water solvent in the correct quantities can create powerful elixirs."
Plants and water? That's it?: "Well, not just any water will do. You'll find that some pools of water contain special qualities that make them ideal for potion-making. The grade of the water determines the potency of the product."
Does it matter what reagents I use?: "All reagents have hidden properties. When they are combined with other ingredients that bestow the same benefits, the potency is compounded. This reaction determines the nature of the potion. It's just a matter of experimentation, you see?"
Skill Perks
Alchemy has an associated skill line that is revealed through use of the Alchemy profession. Known abilities are listed below.
- Notes
- The numbers displayed here are the base values for the skills. Magicka/Stamina Cost is based on a character of Level 4, wherein each additional level increases the Magicka/Stamina Cost by 10% of this value. Damage values are based on Max Magicka/Stamina 1000, and Weapon/Spell Damage 0. The actual numbers you see in the game may depend on a variety of factors, including skill line rank, your equipped weapons and armor, other skills, enchantments, etc. As such, they should only be used as a comparative reference.
Passive Abilities
Passive abilities are active all the time, and affect the outcome of Alchemy related activities.

Formulae
Two Reagents
In ESO, two reagents with the same effect need to be combined in order to craft a potion. Be aware that some combinations will provide a not always beneficial side effect. Remember that you have to also provide a solvent, which influences the strength, but not the effect, of a potion.
Three Reagents
Learning the Ability Laboratory Use enables you to use of up to three reagents. This opens the door to a large variety of multi-effect potions since each effect has to be present only two times within the reagents chosen in order to be applied to a potion. (Listing all possible multi-effect formulae for potions with three reagents but no triple effect exceeds the author's capacity.) To use three reagents to their full potential, you also need to understand how opposing effects work (as described in the following sections).
Opposing Effects
All effects have opposing counter effects, e.g. Restore Health and Ravage Health oppose each other. The UI on alchemy stations helps identifying such pairs, as the icons visible there for the two opposing effects are black/white inverted versions of each other.
To add an effect on a potion, the effect has to sum up to 2 or 3 over the reagents used for a potion. An opposing effect now counts as a negative to that sum. That means combining two reagents with Restore Health and one with Ravage Health will result in a potion without any effect related to Health. This can be used to rule out some unwanted side effects.
Triple Effects
Up to three reagents containing the same effect can be combined if you have the Laboratory Use passive. This will result in a longer duration of the tripled effect. Note: not all desired effects are available on three reagents; for example, Stun is only available on Emetic Russula and Water Hyacinth.
The following table gives a complete list of formulae for tripled effects.
