IWon'tFightUndead

IWon'tFightUndead has been around for a long enough time to know all the basics of editing, as well as be known by the community. From his edits one can see that he is knowledgable about the Elder Scrolls series, and is also able to put this knowledge into the wiki with high quality edits. All in all, I don't think that his edits need patrolling any more, and I believe he will be capable of juding both the quality and validity of other peoples' edits. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 12:20, 24 November 2008 (EST)

Given the lack of votes in this case, the nomination is closed as no decision. This does not prevent IWon'tFightUndead from resubmitting a nomination at any point. –RpehTCE 07:42, 16 December 2008 (EST)

Darkle

Reasons

Well, I've been here a while, and plan on staying around. I believe I've got a fair grip on how to make good edits, and how to judge whether another person's edit is made in good faith, or if it's simply to make people's lives difficult. I don't know everything about editing a Wiki, but I know how to learn as I go and look at the code of a page to find what I need to know. As far as grammar/spelling goes, I usually won't make mistakes, but I do have the occasional slip up. I can generally accurately rephrase poorly written edits and, aside from talk pages, I haven't written in the first-person. As for watching the Recent Changes page, I already do that out of habit. Thanks for reading. --Darkle 22:53, 1 October 2008 (EDT)

  • Support - Your contribution history proves that you definitely know how to revert vandalism, and have been watching the RC for a long time before this. Most of your edits (at least the ones I looked at) used correct grammar/spelling. Don't worry about slip-ups, as we all have those. You've got my support! Vesna 23:18, 1 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Support - You definitely seem to be editing in good faith. I fully support! --GuildKnightTalk2me 00:46, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Support - I'm just leaning over to the support side on this nomination. Darkle has proven himself to be an excellent vandalism reverter, as his contributions history can show. The thing that concerns me is that if we remove his currently 96 talk page edits (actually 100, but 4 were reverts), and his 50 vandalism reverts, he only has around 70 content edits. However, as vandalism reverting carries a lot of weight in my opinion, he still gets a Support from me. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 07:09, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Support - Game Lord is right that you're still a little green, but your edits so far have definitely been of a good quality. –RpehTCE 12:36, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Support - I think you definetly deserve the job, since you already patrol, we might as well give you more buttons.

I also think that yo have done good to fight vandalism, and sincerely want this site to prosper. I'm with you all the way. Ninja Hinder 22:57, 2 October 2008 (EDT)

Ninja Hinder (Nomination Withdrawn)

My Reason

Well, I've been here a month and a half now, and I've already made an impact on this site. I frequently find myself trying to find something to do for the good of the site, and I usually can't because I play on the Xbox. I know I can help out the site by patrolling. I know quite a bit about editing, and will instantly know if an edit about Oblivion is true or not, since I know that game inside and out. I am a great speller and I know my grammar, but I am annoying on the IRC. That's all. Ninja Hinder 22:59, 1 October 2008 (EDT)

  • Oppose - While you do have over a hundred edits, only a few are outside of user or sandbox pages. You've only been here for less than two months. As for being annoying on IRC, I find it strange how you nominated yourself as a patroller without knowing how the process goes, or even reading the guidelines page (you would have noticed the "edits outside of user page" clause). Give it a few more months and more experience, and I might vote for you. Vesna 23:18, 1 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose - To repeat Vesna, you may have over 100 edits, but the vast majority are in userspace or on talk pages. You also made 6 edits in the "General" namespace, having to do with your fanfictions, and 30 in the "Oblivion" namespace. Of those 30, 27 were made to the "Roleplaying" pages, one was made to "Useful Spells", one was made to "Things to Do When You're Bored", and the last was made to "NPCs who respawn", which will likely be either moved or deleted. You do not have a single constructive contribution, from my point of view. Try making constructive edits to articles, with the intent to improve them and make them more useful for the site's readers. Once you're comfortable with that, try keeping an eye on the Recent Changes page to check the edits others make. Get a little more time under your belt, get a little more wiki-savvy, and you might have a shot in a few months. --GuildKnightTalk2me 01:06, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose - GuildKnight's shown us the numbers, and I have to say that I agree. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 07:11, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose - I think Vesna and GuildKnight have both shown that at this point, you aren't ready to be a patroller. --Ratwar 12:14, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose - Agree with the others. I'd also add that trying to use how annoying you are on IRC as a selling point is really not a great plan. –RpehTCE 12:36, 2 October 2008 (EDT)

PLRDLF

This user seems to know his (or her?) stuff, and since they are working primarily on Daggerfall articles, most of the other Patrollers don't really know enough to be able to make judgement calls on the edits, so these will go largely unpatrolled otherwise. They seem to be at least technically sound, which is about all I (or most of the Patrollers) can say, not knowing much about Daggerfall. Allowing PLRDLF's edits to be auto-patrolled would save the rest of us from a lot of patrolling work that we're really not qualified for. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:56, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Support - as nominator. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:56, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
Neutral- I do agree that it would be useful to have a patroller who is knowledgable about daggerfall and I see no reason why PLRDLF is not fit for patroller status, the on ething that keeps tapping me on the shoulder is that PLRDLF has not yet responded to the comment you left no his/her talk page in the week since it was posted. For this reason I am not sure if they are accepting or declining the nomination and therefore cannot give a solid vote yet. --Volanaro TCE 13:20, 19 August 2008 (EDT)
Oppose- I also think it would be useful to have a Daggerfall patroller, however, I have noticed that long pages of his are generally filled (more or less) with misspellings and mediocre or inconsistent grammar. This page, for example contains a few, small, yet noticeable mispellings, and I have found many of his pages to do the same. Having a Daggerfall patroller would be useful, but I feel pages with such noticeable mispellings should not go unpatrolled.-Puddle Talk+Contribs. 14:45, 19 August 2008 (EDT)

This nomination has never been accepted or even acknowledged by the nominee, and therefore cannot be considered a legitimate nomination. Given that it has been more than one week since this was posted, and more than one week since PLRDLF was asked to confirm the nomination, this nomination is being closed. The votes that have been placed are not part of the actual record, given that the nomination was never accepted. Also, this nomination does not count against the nomination wait period, since it was never accepted by the candidate (in other words, a new nomination can be started at any time for this candidate, assuming that the candidate first accepts the nomination). --NepheleTalk 15:09, 19 August 2008 (EDT)

Matthewest

I am quite confident in my nomination for I believe I have proven myself to the wiki this year. I have perfected my wiki formatting and I will place a link in text wherever possible as you can see in the Roleplaying page. I am adept at creating pages as you can see here. Today I went through the entire Roleplaying page and added links wherever possible. I have completed one task on the task list where I had to go through all the Tamriel Books that needed formatting and format them. I also added links in the process as you can see in many of those books. Although I did need a little help with those pages, I have learnt alot more and I have almost no problem in the wiki. I always have a new window open in place for the Recent Changes so if an edit is not right, I will correct it like any patroller would. Since my previous nomination, I have learnt much and feel I am ready to take on the role of a Patroller. I would like to thank many people for helping me whenever I was in doubt on the wiki and I can tell you, the constructive criticism has payed off indeed. You can almost always find me in the UESPWiki Java Client chatroom if you need to discuss any matters with me.

Strengths:

  • Formatting Pages
  • Adding links
  • Fixing spelling mistakes
  • Undoing edits
  • Warning users
  • Creating pages
    • Creating redirects to pages
  • Knowledge of Oblivion and all its expansions as well as some knowledge of Morrowind
  • Reviewing edits in the Recent Changes page
  • Answering any questions
  • Understanding the importance of the difference between american spelling and british spelling
  • Clicking 'Show Preview' before saving any changes
  • Adding 'Stub' or 'Needs Image' tags where necessary
  • Cleaning up pages
  • Using Templates
  • Modifying tables and summaries
  • Using the 'Minor Edit' checkbox when necessary
  • Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation

Weaknesses:

  • Uploading images (although I cannot take my own since I am an xbox 360 user)
  • Programming (As Rpeh mentioned in our conversation)
  • Creating templates (although I can use them fine)
  • Summary codes
  • Some types of tables
  • Knowledge of the CS
  • Knowledge of Mods

Votes

  • Oppose: Part of the job of a Patroller involves actively checking, confirming and validating things before you make a conclusive edit. A key part of the job is that your edits must be at a quality where they can essentially be ignored by other editors; no further refinement, checking, tweaking etc, is required. Sending warnings, creating pages and shoe horning links into things is all well and good, but weaknesses such as lacking grammar and punctuation still require other editors to followup and make corrections. --Saruuk 05:12, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
My grammar, spelling and punctuation are fine at the moment so other editors wouldn't need to look through my edits for spelling errors ect. --Matthewest TCE 05:20, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose: For the same basic reasons already stated by Saruuk. First, Patrollers need to be able to fact-check edits that have been made, not simply check the edits for grammar, spelling, and formatting. After all, the purpose of the site is to provide information, not just be a collection of well-written sentences. Fact-checking, answering questions, and generally providing accurate information is the most difficult part of a patroller's job. Prospective patrollers need to have shown that they understand the site's quality standards: their edits should contain accurate information and they should have shown that they are able to do fact-checking (and that they realize when they are unable to fact-check an edit and therefore should leave it for someone else to fact-check). You have not demonstrated these points, and scanning your last two months of edits I cannot find any examples of edits that add substantial factual content. Secondly, a prospective patroller's edits need to be of sufficient quality that other patrollers can trust the candidate's edits without any need for followup. Reviewing your recent edits shows that a substantial fraction of your edits have required followup or even been undone by patrollers. --NepheleTalk 19:05, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose: For pretty much the same reasons as stated by Nephele and Saruuk, the edits you've made have not been of substantial nature. Further, one main part of being a Patroller is that we have to be able to trust each others edits, and I can't say I trust yours without checking. Concentrate on making edits that improve the site, instead of worrying about edit-counts and titles. --BenouldTC 19:30, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose: The fact that your nomination contains a couple of minor grammatical errors ("American" and "British" should be capitalized) and spelling mistakes ("alot" should be "a lot", "payed" should be "paid"), and that your response to Saruuk contains a spelling mistake ("ect." instead of "etc.") tell me that you're not ready at this time. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 18:19, 10 July 2008 (EDT)
  • Oppose: Besides echoing the thoughts of the above, I'd like to say that your list of strengths shows you really don't know the duties of being a patroller. Stuff like "Adding Links, Creating redirects to pages, Using Templates, Adding 'Stub' or 'Needs Image' tags where necessary, and Undoing edits" aren't really strengths, they're basic tasks. Any long term editor should know how to do those things or know how to find out. --Ratwar 19:11, 10 July 2008 (EDT)

Puddle (Nomination Withdrawn)

Okay... where to start. Well, I believe I am worthy of the position of patroller. I know I've made some mistakes, and I am not going to deny them, but I am hoping I won't be judged only on my faults. I also believe I have made some quite impressive contributions to the site, and have picked up a lot just by seeing how it's done. I hope my forgetfulness and recent busyness will not be my downfall.-Puddle TalkContribs. 09:47, 26 June 2008 (EDT)

Strengths
  • I always exercise good grammar and spelling.
  • I easily spot mistakes on articles.
  • I pick up new skills and Wiki talents like a sponge, and am not afraid to ask for help.
  • I understand and use wiki code on a good level.
  • I am online when few patrollers usually are, due to my semi-nocturnal nature.
Weaknesses
  • I sometimes am cursed with forgetfulness during long edits, resulting in a second to fix some thing I forgot to add/delete.
  • I do not know much about the games before Morrowind.
  • My CS and Wiki coding skills are quite limited.

As mentioned before, all I ask of the community is a fair and well thought-out consensus of my strengths, weaknesses, faults and accomplishments.

Oppose:Theres no doubt you are a capable editor and given time I'm sure in time you will be reday for the patroller position, unfortunately, I have seen too many mistakes recently to give a support vote, expecially when some of them are based purely on your personal opinions. Again I fell that in given time you will be perfect for the patroller position, but for now I still feel your edits need to be patrolled. --Volanaro 12:04, 26 June 2008 (EDT)

Uhm, just to clarify, what personal opinionated mistakes are you referring to? I don't understand what you meant by that.-Puddle TalkContribs. 12:53, 26 June 2008 (EDT)
Well, I know it was a while ago but yuo still havent even replied to this, ok so maybe my last comment was a bit overly critical, like i said, most of your edits have been spot on. The only other problem I have is that you've barely been here 2 months and I dont see that as a long enough time to decide wether you are ready for thi position or not.
Aah, I'm sorry I never replied to that, I wholeheartedly agreed with your post and did not want to push the subject any further, and no, it was not overly critical, I asked for a fair opinion and you gave it, and on the contrary, my contributions show I have been a registered editor since February 6th, 2008 but thank you for your opinion, I was counting this incident as a mistake.-Puddle TalkContribs. 19:15, 27 June 2008 (EDT)
Ah, so you have! For some reason, when I checked your contributions, I set it to show 500 per page but it only conitniued to show 50, so i assumed that you had only been editing for a few months. Maybe its just me being overly negative, (I've been having a bad week) I'm withdrawing my vote until I can think properly --Volanaro 06:37, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
Opppose: You've made a lot of good contributions to the wiki, and your work monitoring the recent changes page has been very helpful. However, the biggest difference between what you're doing now and what you'd be doing as a patroller is that as a patroller your edits will all be marked as patrolled: in other words, other patrollers will not be asked to double-check your contributions. And unfortunately right now I see too many cases where followup for your edits has been necessary. I think it's best for the site if, for now, a patroller continues to look over what you've done. If you'd like to improve, the best thing is to look over what type of followup has been done to your edits and learn from those examples. Some general tips would include pay a bit more attention to grammar and don't assume that content added by anonymous editors is incorrect. Finally, it's often better to do less rather than more. A good patroller only tries to clean up those edits where he/she knows what needs to be done. If you're not sure whether the facts are accurate, it's better to skip that edit and either come back to it later when you have a chance to check the facts, or let another patroller deal with it. Patrollership isn't determined based on the number of cleanup edits that you make on the recent changes page, but on the overall quality of those edits. --NepheleTalk 12:56, 2 July 2008 (EDT)
Oppose: Over the past couple of weeks I'd been thinking that you were getting close to being ready to become a patroller and I think if you'd waited another month I'd have given you my support. At the moment I'd agree with Nephele that there are just too many things that need checking in your posts. If you look at the sort of changes that get made to your own edits, I'm sure you'll be ready for the job soon. –RpehTCE 11:44, 5 July 2008 (EDT)
  • I believe this would be a better time than any to withdraw my nomination, however I STRONGLY urge anyone who has any suggestions or advice on how else to improve my editing to leave a message on my talk page.
