Detailed Walkthrough
Viranus Donton
When you reach the rank of Protector, Modryn Oreyn in Chorrol will give you this quest. Your job is to take Viranus Donton—the son of the Guildmaster—on a contract to boost his confidence. You are to locate Galtus Previa who has gone missing in Nonwyll Cavern, northwest of Chorrol.
To find Viranus, cross the street from the Fighters Guild to the Donton house. Viranus will probably be right inside or upstairs in a sitting area. Talk to him and he will follow you. He wants to go talk to his mother first, but you talk him out of that idea with no trouble at all.
Nonwyll Cavern
Viranus Donton will now follow you anywhere you go, and you need not lead him directly to Nonwyll Cavern right away (though it may not be a good idea to bring him on any Thieves Guild missions). As Viranus is marked "essential", he cannot be killed. He will just keep getting knocked unconscious, so you don't have to worry too much about protecting him. He does serve as a decent distraction when he is awake, however, and you can get some practice in with either your marksmanship or ranged Destruction spells if you stand off from the fight. You can also get some good Restoration practice in between fights by healing him.
When you're ready, travel to Nonwyll Cavern. It is located a short walk up into the hills north of the Chorrol's north gate.
Once inside, fight your way through a few savage trolls in the upper area. Once that area is cleared, go through either of the two doors leading to the Chamber of Titans where you will find the body of Galtus Previa at the furthest end of the cavern. Beware of the five savage trolls, two savage ogres, and one savage minotaur between the entrance and Galtus' corpse. All of these are leveled, you may find the savage ones easier than the typical versions, or considerably more difficult, depending on your level. When the battle's done, lead Viranus to Galtus' body, and a journal entry will prompt you to report back to Oreyn.
Reward
Return to the Fighters Guild in Chorrol and report to Modryn Oreyn. Modryn will give the contract pay to Viranus Donton, but you will still get one Fame point and also a random type of blade—either dagger, shortsword, longsword, or claymore—with the following attributes:

*The specific attribute is based on the type of blade received: Dagger - Intelligence; Shortsword - Speed; Longsword - Agility. Note there are no claymores with attribute enchantments.
Notes
- Despite what Modryn says, it won't do any harm if you do go talk to Vilena Donton about this quest. She will just tell you where to find her son.
- You do not need to kill all of the trolls in the cave. The quest update is triggered by finding Galtus' body.
- You do not need to stay near Viranus; if you rush ahead of him, he will reappear next to you when you leave the cave.
- Modryn Oreyn is very interested in the Broken Shield found next to Galtus Previa. If you return with it he takes it from you to research some symbols scratched into it. However, you do not need to bring the shield back to complete the quest. If you feel inclined to, you can return to Nonwyll Cavern after the quest is completed and take it, since it will still be found there. The shield is a quest item, however, so it will remain in your inventory forever.
- Nonwyll Cavern's residents do not respawn. You can clear it out before you get the quest, then simply lead Viranus Donton through an empty dungeon to Galtus Previa's body. The broken shield can also be found next to the corpse at any time.
Bugs
- Sometimes if you fast travel after leaving the cave, Modryn Oreyn loses some of his gear and his face may disappear, showing only his teeth and eyes.
- Sometimes the quest will not realize you have arrived at the cave.
