Snowclad Ruins is a small outdoor ruin guarded by werebears, located northwest of the Temple of Miraak and southeast of Hrothmund's Barrow.

A large pool of water in front of the ruin is fed by an aqueduct from the southwest and empties with a waterfall to the northeast.

Snowclad Ruins

The path starts with a flight of stairs rising from the left of the path immediately before passing under the first of the two arches before reaching Saering's Watch. At the top the path continues to the southeast, with more stairs and the path passes under a stone slab arch. Beyond the arch there are two frost trolls as well as more stairs rising to the south. After the next stone slab arch the stairs continue up toward the southeast again. At the very top is yet another arch with a dead reaver underneath surrounded in gore, blood and bones, while a second dead reaver is to the left of the arch. Beyond this there are stairs descending, ahead you can see the ruin. On the right is a snowberry bush. You can follow splatters of blood until you discover another dead reaver. Here the path descend to near the edge of the pool that's in front of the ruins, care needs to be taken as a werebear patrols this area, while another two werebears are near the shrine, They will immediately transform and attack when alerted to your presence. The path follows the edge of the pool before passing under the aqueduct.

The ruins consist of an L-shaped stone foundation with a shrine set in an alcove at its south end. There is a deer pelt to the right of the shrine and a snow fox to the left, both on the ground. Two treasure chests can be found here: one in the pool at the base of the waterfall dropping from the aqueduct, and another on top of the alcove that holds the shrine. The second can be reached by climbing the rocks to the right or left of the alcove.

Notes

  • The shrine in the ruins appears to be an altar of Hircine, similar to the one found in Glenmoril Coven. It may be a reference to Hircine's Hunt, which has taken place on Solstheim in the past.
  • There is a skeleton and three apothecary satchels (two rare, one common type) east of the ruins. If you are facing the altar, the area is down and around the cliffs to your left.
  • There is an unlocked chest with nice loot above the altar. The best way to get it is to Summon Arvak and ride up. Alternatively, use the "jumping exploit", either from the cliffs below or to the right of the altar (shorter route).
