Septimus Signus's Outpost

Septimus Signus's Outpost is a small ice cave on a small remote island off the north coast of Skyrim, where Septimus Signus has made his home.

It is located north of Winterhold and contains a Dwemer lockbox. Septimus Signus moved the lockbox to this remote location to study it. He is an expert on Elder Scroll lore, but knowledge and interaction with them has destroyed most of his mind. He claims that "Inside is the heart. The heart of a god! The heart of you. And me". However the book Oghma Infinium is what is actually found inside the lockbox.

Septimus Signus's Outpost

After walking a short stretch north from the College of Winterhold, an ice path will appear. When you reach the outpost, entrance can be gained by opening a trapdoor on the southern side of the small remote island, next to a row boat that is tied up against it. The trapdoor opens into a narrow ice tunnel that heads down into the cave before leading onto a ledge above the cave, which leads around to a ramp that heads around the cave anticlockwise. At the bottom is the Dwemer lockbox and a small square wooden table with two bottles of alto wine, two bottles of wine, a goblet and jug on top. A second jug is on the ground and a cupboard against the northeast side of the cave, under the ramp, which holds three bowls of fire salts, a filled petty and common soul gem and copies of Antecedants of Dwemer Law, Boethiah's Proving, Chimarvamidium, Dwemer History and Culture, Dwemer Inquiries Vol I, II and III, Effects of the Elder Scrolls, Pension of the Ancestor Moth and two copies of Ruminations on the Elder Scrolls, which is written by Septimus himself.

Notes

  • Boethiah's Proving will not appear until the player reaches level 30.
  • Northeast of the entrance is The Chill, Winterhold's jail.
