Detailed Walkthrough
Your First Task
After Sheogorath has congratulated you on actually making to the Isles, he will explain, in a roundabout way, what his plans are for his latest champion:
- "I've been waiting for you, or someone like you, or someone other than you, for some time. I need a champion, and you've got the job. Time to save the Realm! Rescue the damsel! Slay the beast! Or die trying. Your help is required. A change is coming. Everything changes. Even Daedric Princes. Especially Daedric Princes. Daedra are the embodiment of change. Change and permanency. I'm no different, except in the ways that I am. The Greymarch is coming. And you're going to stop it."
The Madgod is hesitant to explain more about the Greymarch he mentioned, claiming the details aren't important at the moment, and instead explains the next task he has in store for you; he tasks you with reactivating the Resonator of Judgment, a device used to deal with unwanted adventurers prior to the creation of the Gatekeeper found in the ruins of Xedilian.
- "Now? You run an errand for me. An important one. Of course, anything I tell you to do is important. My Realm, my rules. You're going to Xedilian, one of my favorite spots in the Isles. It's a little place I use to take care of unwanted visitors. And some are more unwanted than others. The Gatekeeper takes care of most of the unwanted, but he's dead. We'll have to remedy that soon, as well.... Anyway... there are those that have other ways into my Realm, and they're on the move. We don't want them here. Trust me. So, you're going to get Xedilian up and running. Here's a little book to tell you how, and the Attenuator of Judgement. You'll need that, too."
With that, the Prince gives you the Manual of Xedilian and the aforementioned Attenuator of Judgment, and ends the conversation with a reminder that Haskill can provide more details on your mission if necessary.
To continue, you must either read the manual Sheogorath provided or speak with Haskill about reactivating the dungeon in question, the latter of which will provide you with a description of your task, as well as one of Haskill's numerous sarcastic insults:
- "Yes? Ah... silly me. The book has no pictures. Can't really expect you to read that, now can I? To reactivate Xedilian for my Lord's pleasure, you'll need to find three Focus Crystals and return them to their resting place. Each crystal has a matching receptacle called a Judgment Nexus. Even you can't miss them. Without the crystals in place, the Resonator of Judgment, Xedilian's power source, cannot be restored."
Exterminating Vermin
With your instructions in mind, make your way to Xedilian far to the south, along the Pinnacle Road directly east of Rotten Den; be prepared to deal with two grummites loitering outside the dungeon.
Once inside, open the metal gate in front of you using the glowing button with an image of a frowning face found to the right of the door and follow the path through Xedilian, dealing with any grummite intruders you encounter. You'll find your first Focus Crystal in an eastern corridor a short ways into the ruin in the possession of a grummite shaman, who has fashioned the item into a powerful crystal staff. Defeat the shaman and his two guardians and reclaim the focus crystal from his staff, then reactivate the nearby Judgment Nexus to restore a third of Xedilian's power; only two more nexuses left.
Continue traversing the ruin's twisting halls until you come to a second glowing button. When you activate this switch, the floor beneath you opens and drops you into a pit with a few inanimate skeletons and a dead grummite. Move into the next room to encounter your second grummite shaman and deal with him and his companions. Collect the crystal from the shaman's staff and place it on the nearby nexus. Two down, one to go.
Continue through the following chamber, guarded by three grummites and two hunger statue traps, and enter the door leading to Xedilian's second section; the Halls of Judgment. Continue a short distance into the Halls to find the third and final crystal wielding grummite shaman. Once defeated, return his crystal to the nearby nexus as you did the others to restore power to the ruin. All you need to do now is flip the switch.
...And the World Will Beat a Path to Your Door
Head even deeper into the ruin, contending with a few more grummite vagrants, until you enter the a chamber with a large crystalline formation at the back; this is the Resonator of Judgment. Defeat the last few grummite guardians, including a grummite magus, and approach the giant formation. Activate the resonator, and you will hear a slight hum as it begins its so-called "siren call," which will also lower a nearby gate, allowing you access to a glowing teleportation pad; go ahead and activate it.
You will be teleported to an observation platform overlooking one of the chambers in Xedilian's first section, and will be met by the Dunmer caretaker of the ruin, Kiliban Nyrandil. Unfortunately, there is little time to exchange pleasantries; it seems that the revived resonator has already ensnared its first intruders, and your next task is to decide their fates.
