This is a tale of Lysander, a Scholar from High Rock on a stipend to explore the Eastern Provinces.

I went on a little excursion with my level 2 Breton Scholar, seeking the Fields of Kummu. After cutting through the ravines, the walk on the shores of Lake Amaya was uneventful, and I traded a piece of muck to the shrine. The burden of my chittin armor and my steel shard mace suddenly felt like it wasn't there, so I decided to press on and retrieve Guild dues from a remote member of the Mages Guild in Sulipund.

On the way, I met a Bosmer and fellow scholar who was separated from his friend while studying mating kagouti. I agreed to try to help him, actually the kagouti found me and the wild beasts charged. Luckily, one of the few spells I had managed to research was Lion Tamer, a modified Calm Beast for a measly 1 pt of my magical reserves. The beasts once again peaceful, I found some research notes and the missing Scholar. I urged him to hurry, because there was no telling what the kagouti would do next. The Bosmer was very grateful and rewarded me with a precious magical amulet, preventing damage when falling from great heights. This would come handy when I would scale mountains of Molag Amur.

Encouraged by this good fortune, I decided to continue my journey, but it would have to be the next day, for night had fallen. In my search for the scholar, i had seen a tomb, perhaps that would provide shelter and safety. Entering the dimly-lit tomb, I sensed that I was not alone, and after a right, I saw a vile creature of the Void. It was a Hunger that was gnawing at my weapons and armor, drawing the life from them. I had no choice but to charge and whack it with my mace of Ice, which did good damage. At last, with the great beast slain, I examined the body and found a treasure beyond my expectations. An Ebony helm glinting darkly, and worth many times my yearly salary!

The next morning i explored the slopes of the mountain range in the direction of Marandus, which the Mage Steward Ranis Athrys had marked for me. Alas, my search for a passage through the rocks where in vain, what to do? Should I admit defeat and come back better prepared? I did know a powerful Levitation spell, but its requirements were equally large. After many tries, I made it to the top when a fierce shriek interrupted my flight - a Cliff racer was bearing down on me! Stumbling, whacking, falling to certain death and low on magical energies, I remembered the locket from the day before, preventing what would sure be many broken bones. My trusty mace bashed the skull of the beast and icy powers froze its blood. Panting and trapped between rocks, I clutched the Almsivi Intervention scroll, yet with the goal so near, should I give in? Ranis would laugh at me, a fragile Breton, and I was determined to show the fiery-eyed Dunmer that I could make it in this savage land. Drawing on the powers of St. Velothi, I recharged my life forces and called an Ancestral Ghost to lend me his magical powers.

Refreshed that way, and avoiding a shadowy ruin I carried on, chewing a bit of hound meat and saltrice. Spirits high, I got careless and -within an instance- not one but two scamps were on me like locus! The critters used their claws to great effect and I had to Absorb Health from them to bring them down. In our battle, they had chased me all the way to the entrance of a cave, Punabi!

Impressed by my travails, Manwe agreed to pay the dues, but urged me to leave the inhabitants of the cave undisturbed. Although it was tempting to talk to fellow conjurers, I finally had enough adventure for one trip and used the Intervention scroll to return to town. Ranis was deeply impressed that I, a lowly Evoker, had succeeded where so many over the years had failed, mission accomplished!
