Every soul in Elder Scrolls Online is one of six possible strengths: Petty, Minor, Lesser, Common, Greater, Grand. More powerful creatures have more powerful souls. Souls are trapped in soul gems by using the soul trap ability. Trapped souls are used to recharge items, and resurrect players.
Soul Strength
The Soul Strength captured from the creature depends on its level. Some enemies have static levels, while others depend on where they are found.

| Petty | 1-9 |
| Minor | 10-19 |
| Lesser | 20-29 |
| Common | 30-39 |
| Greater | 40-49 |
| Grand | 50+ |
