baratron's Adventures in ESO Enchanting after Update 4!

Before Update 4

  • Only white glyphs would be received in item drops.
  • Very little inspiration was received from glyph creation. Far more inspiration was received from glyph extraction.
  • Deconstructing white glyphs made by other players gave considerably more inspiration than white glyphs received in drops.
  • Different Essence runes gave slightly different amounts of inspiration.
  • There was almost no difference between white glyphs of different levels, e.g. Using the same Essence stone, a white level 40-50 glyph gave 1093 inspiration upon extraction, whereas the white V1-V3 glyph gave 1101 inspiration.
  • The different colours of glyph scaled as follows:
Type of Glyph Relative Inspiration Compared to White Glyph
White x1
Green x4
Blue x5
Purple x6
Gold x7

Given the huge changes in Enchanting in Update 4, I wanted to get some hard numbers to find out how things had changed.

Experiment 1: Does Essence Rune matter?

I took a load of white Major Glyphs (V1-V3) received in drops and extracted them with a character who began with level 22 Enchanting.

Type of Glyph Number Inspiration Received
Major Glyph of Flame 1 2284
Major Glyph of Flame 2 2361
Major Glyph of Flame 3 2361
Major Glyph of Magicka 1 2284
Major Glyph of Reduce Spell Cost 1 2284
Major Glyph of Reduce Spell Cost 2 2361
Major Glyph of Shock 1 2284
Major Glyph of Shock 2 2207*
Major Glyph of Stamina 1 2361
Major Glyph of Stamina 2 2284
Major Glyph of Stamina 3 2361

Note: The second Major Glyph of Shock was definitely bugged because it dropped a Pora runestone (level 40-50) on extraction, instead of Denara (V1-V3). I don't know why.

Conclusion: Essence rune does not affect the amount of inspiration received.

Experiment 2: Is there any connection between inspiration gained and runes received upon extracted?

I took eight white Major Glyphs of Stamina (V1-V3) made by my character with level 50 Enchanting, and extracted them with a character who began with level 23 Enchanting.

Glyph Number Inspiration Received Runestones Received
1 2284 Ta
2 2284 Denara
3 2284 Denara
4 2284 Denara, Deni
5 2284 None
6 2284 Deni
7 2284 Ta
8 2284 None

I also tested four green Major Glyphs of Stamina (V1-V3):

Glyph Number Inspiration Received Runestones Received
1 4568 None
2 4568 Deni, Jejota
3 4568 Denara, Jejota
4 4568 Denara, Deni

and four blue Major Glyphs of Stamina:

Glyph Number Inspiration Received Runestones Received
1 7628 None
2 7628 None
3 7628 Denata
4 7628 None

Conclusions:

  • The amount of inspiration received is not connected to the number of runes received on extraction of the glyph.
  • It should always be the same, assuming that you are using the same type of glyph.
  • White glyphs created by players give the same amount of inspiration as white glyphs received in drops.
  • I have no idea why some of the dropped glyphs gave slightly more relative to others. They just did, okay?

Experiment 3: How does inspiration from extraction scale with glyph colour?

I created one Major Glyph of Health (V1-V3) in each colour with my character with level 50 Enchanting, and extracted them with a character who began with level 25 Enchanting.

Type of Glyph Inspiration Received Relative Inspiration Compared to White Glyph
White 2284 x 1
Green 4568 x 2
Blue 7628 x 3.34
Purple 13606 x 5.96
Gold 13606 x 5.96

Conclusion: Don't bother wasting Kuta to make glyphs for decon. There's no point.

Experiment 4: How does inspiration from glyph creation scale with glyph colour?

My character with level 25 Enchanting made glyphs using Porade + Deni + an Aspect rune.

Type of Glyph Inspiration Received Relative Inspiration Compared to White Glyph
White 232 x 1
Green 464 x 2
Blue 774 x 3.34
Purple 1392 x 6

I couldn't make gold glyphs because you need to have Enchanting level 31 in order to take Aspect Improvement III.

Conclusion: The inspiration multipliers are identical for glyph creation and extraction.
