As the astute reader would most likely guess, Booksellers sell books. Many of these will have a variety of effects, from simply inspiring or amusing the reader to teaching valuable skills, or even playing a crucial roles in certain missions. Visitors to bookstores are free to browse around and read the books, but actually taking one into your inventory counts as theft.

One major difference between booksellers and libraries, the latter of which are mainly operated by the Tribunal Temple, is that booksellers have a merchant NPC who is willing to accept money for the permanent purchase of a volume. Another is in selection - while most libraries are purely educational in nature, bearing the approved texts of the Temple or Imperial Cult, bookstores often carry ruder or less appropriate works, from swashbuckling tales of adventure to volumes of more than slightly bawdy verse and song. Additionally, many booksellers will buy magical scrolls from adventurers.

The most famous of the bookstores is in Vivec's Foreign Quarter: Jobasha's Rare Books. Most other sizeable towns maintain some sort of bookshop, or perhaps a merchant with a few common volumes, but no other shop has quite the selection Jobasha can boast.
