Online:Battle Leveling

Battle Leveling is a process in which players have their attributes, abilities and other stats scaled up in order for them to complete certain content ostensibly designed for higher level players. The system was originally introduced in Update 1 to provide a more even playing field for the Alliance War, and following the release of Orsinium, also applies to certain zones introduced in DLC packs. Battle leveling takes into account how you have allocated your attribute points, and the strength of your gear also matters. For example, equipping an epic Level 34 sword will give more damage than a fine Level 34 sword when battle-leveled. Note however that the standard level restrictions still apply (with one exception); if you are a Level 34 player who has been scaled up to Veteran Rank 14, you will still only be able to use Level 34 (and below) gear. The exception is Soul Gems; battle-leveled players can only resurrect using a Grand Soul Gem (or Crown Soul GemCrown Store), not their usual at-level soul gems.

Battle leveling also applies to any consumables you have in your inventory, to a limited degree. If you go to Cyrodiil at Level 10, say for example you are battle leveled to 50; your potions will be battle leveled too, and heal as though they were Level 50 potions. If you level up while in Cyrodill, you would technically be Level 11, but still effectively Level 50 through battle leveling. Your potions would still heal as though they were Level 50 potions. If you gain enough experience to make it to Level 20 (hitting the next level bracket), you would still be battle leveled to 50. However, your potions would then be ten levels out of date and become slightly less effective as you move into the next level bracket. Rather than healing you as though they were Level 50 potions, they would heal you at a reduced rate—still decent, but not as good as a Level 20 potion.

In zones with battle leveling, gathering nodes will scale to the level of items you can use, based on your crafting tier. Your crafting tier is determined by your rank in the Metalworking, Tailoring or Woodworking skill. For example, if you have unlocked Rank 3 in the Tailoring skill, and Rank 6 in the Metalworking skill, you will see Tier 3 Clothing resource nodes (Cotton), and Tier 6 Blacksmithing nodes (Calcinium) in battle-leveled zones. Similarly, Alchemy solvent nodes scale based on Solvent Proficiency, and Enchanting potency runestones scale based on Potency Improvement.

Level 50 is used as an example for clarity. Battle-leveling in Cyrodiil actually scales to Veteran15.

Zones with Battle Leveling

Imperial CityCrown Store 10 Veteran16 Veteran15
WrothgarCrown Store 3 Veteran16 Veteran15
Hew's BaneCrown Store 3 Veteran16 Veteran15

  • Prior to Update 9, there was an exception to the gathering node scaling at Rank 10. Rank 10 provided only a rare chance for finding Tier 10 nodes; for example, at Metalworking Rank 10, you would find many Tier 9 Voidstone Ore nodes, while Tier 10 Rubedite Ore nodes were relatively uncommon.
